This issue of Purpose Magazine – Enterprise in Culture is about intercultural dialogue. We have chosen this theme because the year 2008 was announced the European Year of Intercultural Dialogue. Since its beginning, a number of projects have been carried out, subsidized by the European Union for that purpose. The institution coordinating the organization of the Year in Poland is the National Centre for Culture, which also provided assistance in the preparation of this issue.

The representatives of the Centre - Iga Raczyńska, Anna Lonkwic and Martyna Woropińska – in detail explain what the European Year of Intercultural Dialogue is all about in the “Interview”.

We have chosen four projects for this issue of the magazine. The one from the sections“Culture Industries” and “Presentation”, is under the patronage of the EYID and is the only project carried out by a company – Małgorzata Bieńkowska talks about the life she and her husband have chosen, where work is passion, and its results help us understand, in a better way, and find the forgotten music. In the section “Young Culture”, we present the “Shared Past – Shared Future” project aimed at young people, which we discussed with Anna Mirska-Czerwińska from the Center for Citizenship Education. In “Career in Culture”, Aleksandra Halicka invites everyone interested to the Festival entitled “The Window onto the World”. And in the section “On the Margin”, Edyta Jurkiewicz, Head of the Cultural Unit in the Marshal’s Office of Podlaskie Voivodeship, talks about the project entitled “Beyond Tolerance – Youth’s Attitudes Towards Cultural Otherness”.

Everyone interested in carrying out projects related to intercultural dialogue is encouraged to have a look at “Workshop”, where we present several possibilities for obtaining funds for such projects. By contrast, in “Analysis”, Artur Zaguła discusses the nature of international dialogue and wonders whether such dialogue is at all possible, reflecting on his personal experiences from his travel in Western Europe. Finally, we present the world of foreign corporations, as seen by Ewelina Noga from the portal Kariera.com.pl.

This undertaking was prepared and is realized under the Promotion of Reading Operation Programme announced by the Polish Ministry of Culture and National Heritage.
