In the December issue of „Purpose”, i.e. in the last issue of the magazine in 2006 we undertake a difficult task – the presentation of the media in the context of cultural activity. Do the media really have such a profound impact on culture creators? Are they a tool essential for disseminating culture? These and many other questions about the relations between the media and culture are answered by our guests invited to the cooperation on the current issue.

The release of the last issue of „Purpose – Enterprise in Culture” this year coincides with the completion of the pilot project „Purpose for Europe” which is the European counterpart of the magazine. The project was carried out under the Promotion of Reading Operation Programme announced by the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage. „Purpose for Europe” is an undertaking during which four issues of the magazine have been published to present the resourceful attitudes of people who deal with culture in Poland and abroad.

The project confirmed us in our belief that the publication we have been working on for over 2 years now is becoming increasingly popular, and that the problem of enterprise is important not only from the point of view of a Polish culture creator. This subject is gaining significance in the European Union countries as well, which is proved by the fact that our magazine was well received by readers in the EU. Owing to the realization of the project we established a number of interesting contacts with people and institutions that deal with culture. We will doubtless maintain them to prepare subsequent issues of the European counterpart of “Purpose – Enterprise in Culture” in 2007.

In the present issue of „Purpose” we welcome you to get acquainted with the interview with Krzysztof Koenler, the Director responsible for the functioning and development of the thematic channel TVP Kultura. We also recommend the interview with Ms Justyna Hofmokl, a sociologist, in the section „On the Margin”. The sections „Career in Culture” and „Presentations”, where we feature the group Grandpeople from Norway, are well worth reading, too.

Those of our readers who haven’t had an opportunity to visit Creative Valley yet will be without doubt interested in the interview with Ms Izabela Papuga of the Office for Marketing and Promotion, TVP S.A. presented in the section „Young Culture”.

Of course, we didn’t fail to include the sections prepared by our regular co-workers. In the section „Feature” Kuba Wandachowicz once again takes a little pervert look at the topic raised. In the section „Analysis” Dr Artur Zagu³a presents complicated relations between art and the media, as seen by an art historian. Maiej Mazerant, in the section „Culture Industries”, raises the subject of the media as enterprises that influence culture and its creators.

Enjoy reading the magazine. We welcome your opinions.
